1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS

The 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS was developed after Porsche scrapped its F1 program in favor of sportscar racing and hillclimbs. To meet FIA GT class homologation rules, Porsche built a racecar that could also qualify as a road car. The 4-cylinder 587/3 Fuhrmann engine was used instead of the planned flat-6 engine. The body was made of fiberglass, and the chassis was made of steel, making it lightweight and simple to keep costs low.

The 904 weighed just 655kg and featured adjustable steering and pedals, a fixed seat, and a front-mounted fuel tank. Porsche also engineered a rear clamshell trunk to meet FIA homologation rules. The 904 was very successful, winning several races, including first and second place at the Targa Florio in 1964. Around 106 examples were produced, and one of them, chassis 904-057, is now part of a private collection.

This car was delivered in 1964 to Spanish racing driver Juan Fernandez and is an excellent example of the 904s design and engineering. With ample documentation, an exceptional racing background, and unmatched authenticity, this unique Porsche 904 is up for sale, in the hope that it joins a worthy collection.
