Skullcandy X Roc Nation Aviator Headphones

Skullcandy were nice enough to send us a review unit, the Skullcandy & Roc Nation Aviator Headphones. At first glance, you get the sense the Headphones take design cues from Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses. They are a collaboration with Jay-Z and LiveNation’s Roc Nation promotions outfit (maybe to compete against Beats by Dr. Dre?). The Aviator Headphones are great fashion accessories, they are a blend of leading edge neo-retro design and premium construction.

The headphones truly look cool. Our white test unit features a sophisticated and savvy look, the premium polished surface gives them a lens quality fit an finish. They are made of stainless steel, aluminum and poly carbonate, making them easily adjustable. The aviator-inspired spring hinge creates the ideal contour fit with optimal wear and stow ability. They feature cushioned, suede padding on the inside of the headband, and bend slightly for that comfortable fit you always want from over-headphones. The rounded-triangle ear cups also fit perfectly and feel very comfortable because of the plush memory foam inside that envelopes your ear and snuggles nicely. The ear cups are adjustable in height so that you can easily fit them to the size of your head.

The braided nylon cable is almost completely tangle free, it has a remote with a built-in mic, handy for use with portable devices, you can talk on the phone, change the volume, pause the song and skip tracks.

The sound quality is pretty solid, but the bass isn’t as present as you´d want it to be. Having said that, if you play some mellower stuff, classic rock or even classical music, the Aviators do impress, the sound has a really nice balance.

The Roc Nation Aviator Headphones fold up into a nice compact shape and come with a handsome, compact leather case, to provide cover when not in use.

The Roc Nation Aviator Headphones are available in three styles— white (featured here), brown and gold, and black.

Long story short, it seems like the Skullcandy brand is maturing, the Aviator headphones have surprisingly good sound, for anyone who values a natural sound over artificially enhanced bass. They are light and comfortable and feel very durable. They are definitely worth your listen.
