Phonebloks

What would happen if cell phones could be upgraded easily by us, without having to replace them? This is the genius idea behind Dave Hakkens Phonebloks. Everyday we throw away millions of electronic devices, most of the times its only one of the components that causes the problem, the rest of the device works fine, but still gets thrown away. The brilliant Phonebloks is a customizable modular smartphone, made of blocks connected to the base, with the user choosing witch components they need most, a bigger storage block, a bigger battery block, more memory, bigger speaker and so on. You can choose the blocks you want, upgrade the blocks you want or even develop your own blocks(Phonebloks is built on a open platform). watch the amazing video

Phonebloks is currently still in concept stage, the project is on crowd-speaking platform Thunderclap hoping to get enough support to move ahead with production.
